Esta es una adaptación de la novela del mismo nombre escrita por Susan Colina en 1983. El film fue producido por la Central Independent Television, para la ITV, y se estrenó en la víspera de Navidad de 1989. A pesar de que la autora Susan Colina no estuvo del todo deacuerdo con algunos de los ligeros cambios que el guionista Nigel Kneale hiso en la adaptación, el film tuvo un éxito inesperado. Sinopsis: Arthur, un joven abogado, es enviado a un pueblo de la costa inglesa para preparar los tramites de la venta de una vieja casa, cuya propietaria acaba de morir.
